Pardon my off-topic post today but I thought I'd give the photo contest a go. This affords me the opportunity to brag about my son and as all you moms know, we must do this from time to time. It's in our blood.
This is a photo my son took about mid-September when he and his buddies climbed Mt. Hood [Oregon]. He's at approximately the 9,000 foot level. The mountain is over 11,000 feet. Since then, record snowfall has hidden all the cracks and crevices. So, seasonally speaking, this was the End of the Line. Hopefully the judges will concur.
Picture This photo contest has all the details for entering.
And the photo below puts the entry photo in perspective. The circle shows where my son was when he took the photo.

Being that I am deathly afraid of heights, I will admire his photographic and climbing skills from across the room. I cannot fathom climbing Mt Hood..... hell, four rungs on a ladder and I am screaming like a princess!
That does indeed look like the end of the line, perhaps even for a mountain goat!
I'm not good close to an edge when I'm up high. I'll never forget the day my family talked me into going up a mountain near Breckenridge in a ski lift. The ground got farther and farther away, and I insisted there must be another way down, but there wasn't, and I never plan to go on one again.
Anyway, I love the photos, though! Your son took me somewhere I would not want to go to on my own. I hope he does well in the contest.
I'm always impressed by people that climb mountains. I would love the views, but not the actual climbing part. Good luck to him in the contest, it's a beautiful view.
Hi Grace, If you look very closely, you may see a footpath that the rest of us are well able to traverse! Mr. S and I walked the trail which was very, very enjoyable! There were people traveling higher than we, but this trail goes pretty high!! and 'round the other side were interesting sites... tiny alpine flowers and little streams. There was even a bit of snow - which made it interesting! :-)
Your son is one of the more adventuresome and he saw things the rest of us would never have seen! Yes - bragging rights run with Moms. I absolutely concur!
What a wonderful photograph! :-)
I climbed Mt Hood once (long ago). No pictures, though. Living vicariously through our kids is a great way to go, all bragging rights included. His photo is fantabulous.
Hi Grace! It's not just a view, it's that feeling which I got looking at the picture. I felt as I, myself, was hanging on that cliff. I got goosebumps! What a brave man he is! You have all rights to be proud!
Amazing!! Wonderful captures.
Wonderful photo Grace! Think it is a sure winner. Love the mountains in your neck of the woods!
Grace,
It is simply breathtaking, literally. I am so scared of heights, even looking at it makes my heart beat a little faster.
Good luck to you!

Beautiful shot, great entry! I agree with Tatyana, it's not just the photo, but the feeling! Best of luck...
I hope entry number 37 wins!!! Good photo Daniel.
Aunt Laura
Wow, Hood is looking dry in this photo. It's a nice climb. Props to him for doing it.
I agree with some of the posters above...I'm glad that some other people climb mountains and take pictures, so that I don't have to! Very nice pictures, I hope that he wins. :)
Oh yikes! I'm with Teza...screaming like a princess!
You're so funny- yes, the end of your life with one wrong move!
I don't think I've seen a photo that has created as much tension.
I have never been to oregon, but do feel such a draw to that state. Beautiful photos. Love all that sky!
Grace;
Amazing picture, rightly so to be proud of your mountain climbing son! Good luck in contest.
Your son rocks! (pardon the pun :) What an amazing hobby but I will stay firmly planted on the ground for now~
I have climbers in my family too. It makes me a nervous wreck. But the pictures are beautiful. Best luck in the contest.
That's breath-taking, in more ways than one.
Wow - you must be so proud of his achievement Grace ! Himself and your son sound like kindred spirits. A few years ago he climbed the three highest peaks in the UK for a charity fund raiser. My feet remained planted very firmly on the ground.
I love the high mountains. Great shot. YOur son is quite the athlete, and a great photographer too.
What a spectactular view/photo. I certainly couldn't do what your son did. It could definitely be the end of the line in several ways!
