Long Pauses....

Hi Everybody. I'm planning to go off-topic again, if I may. If you're one of the gazillion Twilight fans, you should probably stop reading...right....NOW. Okay. There.
I'm not a huge movie-goer but if there is a movie that interests me, I might check in with movie critic Roger Ebert. [I subscribe to his weekly email.] He's a witty guy, an excellent writer and seems to really know his stuff. Although I have positively no interest in seeing the latest Twilight movie, when I read the first paragraph of his one-star review [out of a possible four], my curiosity was piqued. Most of his critique was what I predicted but nestled within his concluding remarks came this gem: "Long pauses interrupt longer ones." I burst out laughing.
Anyway, on that note, may you all have a fabulous Thanksgiving! I leave you with a few of my summer favorites. I miss them already.

Rosa 'Purple Tiger' [July 09]

Echinacea purpurea 'Fatal Attraction' [August 09]

Lilium 'Stargazer' nestled within Schizachyrum scoparium 'Blaze' Little Blue Stem [July 09]

Abutilon x hybridum 'Nabob' [Sep 09]

Love all your purple collection. I does give that dash of glory in the midst of chaos look.
Beautiful indeed.

Grace, I hope you are having nice, hopefully dry Thanksgiving day!
Your Stargazer picture is an award-winning, absolutely fabulous image! Not a picture, but image! Just stunning!I am glued to the computer screen! Purple Tiger's bloom is beautiful too!
As for the Twilight, we probably were the only people in Forks, WA who came there in last June to see the rain forests and only the rain forests. I know, it makes me a white crow, but I haven't read Twilight.Maybe, I should... Pause...

Love all the pink! The rose is just too pretty.
My friend just sent me a funny book review about one of the Twilight books. Not into it here either.
Have a great Thanksgiving with your family.

Grace I simply love that rose. How pretty! I may have to get one. I wonder if it is hardy to zone 5? Probably not since I like it so well ;-)
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving day.

Happy Thanksgiving Grace (I'm a day late...) hope yours was wonderful! And that Stargazer image is a beauty! (no Twilight fan here...I'm too old)

Grace,
Roses take too much summer watering for my taste. Your Purple Tiger might be worth watering. Enjoyed the post.

Grace, I too had to laugh. I will not see the second installment of the Twilight trilogy unless it is urged upon my by my 16 and 20 year old daughters. I watched the first one with them and *thought* I did not like it--I made fun of it and teased my girls throughout. Then I was processing magazines at the Library where I work and a People Magazine came through with Robert Pattinson on the cover and my heart skipped a beat. Whoa!

I guess it's for teenage girls. And for "mature" women who are teens at heart. :)

Lovely photos!

I love the lily with the schiza-whatever grass. I have one of those guys - I believe it is 'the blues". It was a little floppier than I hoped but I loved how you've paired it with the lily. I may consider moving it back into a more prominant spot.

I did see the first twilight b/c I have an 11-year old (fine, it's because I'm a loser and like teenybopper stuff). I love the "long pauses interrupt longer ones". THe first movie was like that too! But really, it you just think back to when you were a teenager, really lusted after someone, and all that angst and emotion - you can kind of enjoy.

I'm not a big movie watcher either, but I do enjoy a scathing review from time to time. I imagine it's more fun to write bad reviews than good ones. Funny line.

Like Megan, I think reviewers have a blast when they can pull out their poison pens. I'd rather scroll through your flower pix than watch a pale lothario with super powers any day.

Grace,
I must confess that I rented the first Twilight movie, and I plan to rent the second. They are kind of silly, really, but there is something about it that sucks me in. I have no idea why I am admitting to this. ;)
Your gardens are absolutely beautiful... I love the clematis 'Niobe'and viorna. I tend to keep my garden full of purples, yellow, orange and red. So, it's nice to unleash my pink side when I visit. :)

Hi Grace - Never been tempted to read or watch that drivel. Maybe as a teen I would have been, who knows - that vampire guy is kinda cute. Oh, your summer favs! Stargazer lilies are my absolute number one favorite bulb - why don't I have any in this garden? Their scent - divine! Hope you had a good Thanksgiving. PS Thanks for weighing in on the mystery grass. I have a feeling it is pampas, since I have one in the backyard and it could have floated a seed over the house and down to the street, I suppose.

Funny line....no interest in the Twilight series....but at least it got a population of teenage girls reading. I love all your pinks & how you pull them together with the variety of foliage colors & textures. That rose is a beauty & the Lily photo is really stunning!

Lots of comments, I took the weekend off from blogging and now I have a lot to catch up on. That rose is just stunning. I missed having Stargazers in the garden this year...voles.
As for your movie...both my girls went to see it....and liked it. I couldn't be bothered. We go to the movies once a year ( I know!) on New Year's Day....a tradition of about 10 years or so. My husband doesn't like going to movies, doesn't think there are any that are very good. Any recommendations for this year???

Your roses are great! I am trying Echinacea this year. I'm told they do well. Great blog....

I LOVE this post, both for the gorgeous flowers and for the snark on Twilight, which just makes me roll my eyes. Cheesy movie (I lasted 5 minutes watching the first one on the Movie Network) and appallingly poor writing (flipped through one book a year or so back wondering what the fuss was about.) Thankfully, I have no young children that subject me to this stuff or the rest of the tweenie-teenie crazes. Even when my son was 'that age'...he was never like that. Love Roger Ebert and his reviews always seem to be more than fair.

Hi Grace,
I've never been interested in vampire stuff. I saw the author of the books on TV, and it seemed like she was in shock that she has been so successful.

I enjoyed your blooms. The clematis are all pretty, too.

Maybe your arum will turn up yet.
