This photo just goes to prove that there IS a place for impulse purchasing. I wasn't sure about Dianthus 'Marble Garden Spice' but decided to give it a go. It bloomed all summer.

1. I have been married for 29 years. As a 19 year old bride, I have proudly defied the odds.
2. Not only hubby Steve, but our four kids have to deal with me. The oldest, a boy, is 26.
The other three are girls. The youngest is 17. Another has Asperger Syndrome, high functioning on the autism spectrum.
3. I love to annoy my teenagers by listening to rock music really loud. They're always asking me turn it down. I'm very immature.
4. I watch The Young and the Restless.
5. The older I get, the lazier I'm getting. My new computer addiction isn't helping.
6. I hate vegetables but I make up for it [I hope] by loving fruit.
7. I'm scared of Twitter.
8. I am working on a memoir when I can tear myself away from Blotanical.
9. One of my three cats is sleeping beside me as I type this. The other two are off making
mischief. I'm seriously in love with my cats.
10. I'm a budding wordsmith. I use closed caption on my TV. The dictionary is a good read and Microsoft research is my friend.
I think by now Honest Scrap has made the rounds. If you're reading this and you HAVEN'T been tagged, then consider yourself in the loop. But only if you want to.
I just hit the "Guru Blotanist" milestone so I'll be adding to my blog fave list. Be warned.

Thanks for sharing Grace, it's nice to "know you better"...and btw, I can't see a pink flower anymore without thinking of you!
Impulse purchases are the best!!! And you aren't the only one scared of twitter (ok I'm n ot scared of it, just not impressed by it enough to bother) Keep up the good gardening you guru blotanist you!
Hi Grace, it's always nice to get to know our favorite bloggers a bit better. I'm also one of those who defied the odds by getting married aged 19 and keep going after 23 years =) Have a nice day / gittan
Who'd a thunk it? Very interesting, these little tidbits of info...(I like Young and the Restless too, As The World Turns is mt favorite though)
Grace,
I'm scared of twitter too! Rocking away those kids is funny. You better eat your vegetables!!!
Funny! It's nice to get to know you better!
That Dianthus at the top is super!! Enjoyed reading a bit more about you. A baby bride! My husband comes from a family of three girls and one boy....I love family dymanics...most interesting. I have been learning, by way of my daughter, about Asperger Syndrome as she is a Special Ed teacher at a high school, hired to work with the freshmen who have Aspergers. Many are brilliant kids.
I miss our kitty, now have three dogs.
Grace,
Hmm.... you are a word nerd? I knew I liked you! This was very entertaining to read about you!
I also have three girls and a boy. Except my boy is the "baby", he's 11.
Later,
Rosey
It was fun getting to know more about you. Isn't it fun annoying kids with loud music? It was my mom who told me to turn down my music before, now it's my kids.
I love that shot of your garden!
Congratulations on getting to be a "Guru Blotanist"! I am in awe!
I do not twitter, either, and now believe my first instincts are well founded, as I see that people are getting sued for what they tweeted. I don't do Facebook or My Space, either.
I, too, love words.
Janie
Congratulations, Grace, on reaching Guru status. I'm pedaling hard to reach Master and then I'm going to coast and read blogs with pictures of botanical gardens until I've seen them all.
Fun facts indeed! When those kids move out, can I come move into your garden? So lovely.
I enjoyed learning new things about you, Grace. I see we have some things in common besides gardening and blogging. I was a month away from being 20 when we got married in 1972.
My husband is a technology/computer nerd. When he was in the process of wearing me down to agree to getting an iphone, he suggested I may like one, too. So, I ended up getting one, thinking I may blog on it, but it's too slow for my patience. Anyway, we don't text, so he signed us up for some kind of twitter where we could just tweet each other, and no one else would know our names there. Well, I never learned how to use it, and now, I am getting emails from Tweeter saying people want to be my friend, or whatever they call it. I can't even figure out how to notify Tweeter that I don't tweet, because I don't know my name or password. LOL
How old is your child with Asperger? My brother, who is a widower, has 2 sons. The younger one is a senior in high school. He has autism, and will never be independent. He is very driven by his routines, and gets upset if things don't go as he expects them to.
Hey, congratulations on your guru status! I have about 3,000 more points to go.
I love Dianthus 'Marble Garden Spice' and the shot of your garden. Beautiful.
A memoir, very intriguing! My new computer addiction is making me lazier too.
Grace,
A really great choice for your desktop background... very pretty. I enjoyed getting to know a few more things about you. A young bride and 4 children... no wonder you are getting lazier... you probably feel like you've lived a couple of lifetimes already. Congrats for defying the odds... I commend you.

Hi, Congratulations on the Guru Status! Feel honoured when you hit me as a fave in blotanical and just wanted to check whats happening in your part of the garden.
Glad to know about the Scrap Award, and nice to know its really been a loop as I had it too.
I totally agree with you on the impulsive buying, I do that at times.
I just love all of your pink. Special blessings to you, we Moms of special kids know the joy & exhaustion that each day brings. My youngest son is high functioning with cerebral palsy, he makes us laugh everyday. My daughter is a high school special-ed teacher.
BEAUTIFUL!! I love seeing inspirational gardening photos -- especially in the fall/winter when I start dreaming about the possibilities for next season! Daylily Gardener
The dianthus is a stunner and I always enjoy wide shots of your garden. It is so relaxing to look at.
Your'e funny! I totally relate to the laziness. I have 3 baskets of wrinkling clean laundry watching my just type away. (it's been watching me for days now).
I also defied odds. My husband and I met when I was 14 (he was 19 and robbing the cradle a little bit). We'll be celebrating our 20th year together in January (and just had our 13th wedding anniversary)
I love those dainty multicolored pinks in the foreground of the garden shot.
Contratulations to a guru from a mere master :) Enjoyed your post Grace.
Your north garden photo is gorgeous - it rivals any postcard I've seen. I love the extensive stonework, and how the plants are so colourful, and look so full they could almost burst out of the confines of the stone enclosures.
Hi Grace - I am usually too shy to participate in stuff like this but admire you for baring (parts of) your life to your faithful readers. I think you are not truly lazy with a garden like yours, but if any relaxation is possible after all the work you've put in on your family, I think you should definitely go for it! Gardening is relaxation disguised as work, right? Glad to know about your child with ASD, we should talk sometime. I'm scared of Twitter too!
PS Shall we just call you GG now, for Guru Grace? :)
